The State of Missouri, otherwise known as the “Gateway to the West” is home to a diverse mix of southern and midwestern cultural influences which aptly reflects its history as a “border state”. Missouri is known for its famous St. Louis Arch, their busy rail centers, the St. Louis Cardinals, the numerous parks and historic sites, caves, and of course, its friendly people that came from different backgrounds.

Diverse as it is, Missouri offers a broad range of jobs available to the populace, one of which is being a licensed Missouri surgical technician. Simply defined, a Missouri surgical technician is the person assisting the surgeons, nurses or other surgical personnel during a surgical procedure. They are mainly in-charge of making sure that all equipments and tools needed for surgery are clean and functioning properly. Their job may also include helping to prep the patient for surgery by washing them, shaving or disinfecting the areas for operation. Being a Missouri surgical technician is a job that requires a lot of hard work and stamina as some surgical procedures go on for long periods of time without any breaks.

On the upside, demands for licensed a Missouri surgical technician are growing faster than the average. In such cases, hospitals remain to be the primary employer although opportunities can be found as well in other health care industries. To cope with the growing demands, various Missouri surgical technician schools are now offering different training programs to help all prospective surgical technicians out there. Some Missouri schools of surgical technicians offer training programs that lasts from 9 to 24 months which can then lead to a certificate, diploma or associate degree in surgical technology.

For people interested in being a Missouri surgical technician, it is important to note that normally, a high school diploma is required for admissions to different colleges, vocational schools, universities or hospitals which offer formal trainings in surgical technology. Once the training program is over, a student can then start applying for Missouri surgical technician jobs. Note that most employers prefer to hire a licensed Missouri surgical technician. To be a certified Missouri surgical technician, one can voluntarily obtain professional certifications either from the Liaison Council on Certification for the Surgical Technologist or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT); both requiring the completion of an accredited training program and passing a national certification exam.
